^Crossing the St. Louis River and Duluth Harbor using the bridge out of Wisconsin into Duluth on Interstate 535, July 2025.
Interstate 535 is a spur from Interstate 35 connecting Duluth, Minnesota to Superior, Wisconsin. It crosses a massive bridge, which is the closest state border crossing to Lake Superior. Those closely encircling Lake Superior will use this bridge as they go from northern Wisconsin to the North Shore area of northeastern Minnesota. The whole of Interstate 535 is under three miles long, and it only spends about one mile on the Wisconsin side of the state line. The southern end of Interstate 535 is at an interchange where US Route 53 heads southeast, and Wisconsin Highway 35 starts off toward the southwest. US Route 53 is concurrent with Interstate 535 over the bridge crossing (and for the Interstate's entire length). Note that Interstate 35, the namesake of Interstate 535, does not enter Wisconsin, even though Interstate 535 does.
My photo of a route marker for Interstate 535 in Wisconsin shows a set of guide markers found along the final bit of Wisconsin Highway 35. As Interstate 535's Wisconsin portion is only found in Superior, this sign obviously is found in Superior. As told by this signage, Wisconsin Highway 35 ends here as US Route 53 comes from a different direction to join Interstate 535 toward the north. I do somewhat wish at least one of these route numbers would employ a digit other than "5" and "3". This photo was taken in July 2025 during my trip to western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota.
