^A very Wisconsin-esque scene with a Kwik Trip in the background, heading south from Highway 70 in Spooner, July 2025.
In Wisconsin, US Route 63 starts by Ashland in northernmost Wisconsin, and it moves southwesterly to a bridge linking to Red Wing, Minnesota. While in Wisconsin, it is found exclusively in the Indian Head region, and it only serves smaller communities. The northern beginning of US Route 63 is just west of Ashland, Wisconsin, along US Route 2. US Route 63 is mostly a two-lane rural highway going southward with a slight westward component to the progression. It passes through Hayward, and then joins US Route 53 south for a short while. US Route 63 jumps off of US Route 53 to skewer through downtown Spooner. Next, the southwesterly progression of US Route 63 carries it through Cumberland, Turtle Lake, and Clear Lake. After that, US Route 63 passes through pretty flat farm country. It meets US Route 12 and Interstate 94 in Baldwin. It zigzags into Ellsworth, where it joins US Route 10 west for a short while. Finally, US Route 63 heads south out of Wisconsin onto a bridge over the Mississippi River. That bridge deposits motorists in Red Wing, Minnesota.
My photo of a route marker for US Route 63 in Wisconsin shows a trailblazer for those leaving US Route 53, north of Spooner. The interchange where this sign is found is near Trego, and it marks the northern end of a short concurrency shared by the two US highways. The aperture looks northeast at a section of US Route 63 carrying people away from Trego and Spooner. This photo was taken in July 2025 during a trip around western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota.
