Wisconsin Highway 113 is a north-south route from Baraboo to Madison, and it has a ferry crossing in the middle of the route. The northern end in Baraboo at Wisconsin Highway 33. From there, Wisconsin Highway 113 goes south along Business US Route 12 for a short while until Highway 113 diverts toward the east (see photo below). Soon, it curves southeastward as it exits Baraboo, and it moves through a natural area which includes Devil's Lake State Park. Wisconsin Highway 113 joins Wisconsin Highway 78 eastward so that the routes can run concurrently into Merrimac. Merrimac is where Wisconsin Highway 113 splits from Wisconsin Highway 78 to jump south to a ferry terminal across Lake Wisconsin, part of the Wisconsin River. The Merrimac Ferry brings Highway 113's traffic to the south side of the lake (and thus the river). When that traffic disembarks from the ferry, it meets a junction with Wisconsin Highway 188, and then it continues southeast to Lodi. Beyond Lodi, where Highway 113 meets Wisconsin Highway 60, the road continues south, with occasional zigzags toward the east. In Waunakee, Wisconsin Highway 113 jogs east along Wisconsin Highway 19 for a short while. Next comes Wisconsin Highway 113's final stretch, which is a southward jaunt toward Madison along the east side of Lake Mendota. The southern end of Wisconsin Highway 113 occurs at US Route 151 in Madison, just northeast of downtown.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 113 shows this trailblazer in Baraboo. The trailblazer faces west at travelers who just split away from Business US Route 12 on the north shore of the Baraboo River. This photo was taken in August 2015 on the way to the Minnesota State Fair in the Twin Cities. (In August 2015, the north-south street carrying Business US Route 12 also carried Wisconsin Highway 123. That route designation is now a thing of the past.) Back to the Wisconsin main page.
