Wisconsin Highway 127 is a short highway in the middle of Wisconsin, running between Wisconsin Dells and Portage. Since both ends are at Wisconsin Highway 16, it can be considered an alternate route for Highway 16. Wisconsin Highway 16 is farther south, straighter, and closer to hugging the north bank of the Wisconsin River, whose southward course is interrupted by a large kink toward the east. Wisconsin Highway 127 is fourteen miles long, beginning just east of Wisconsin Dells and ending just west of Portage. The east end near Portage is at the same intersection where Wisconsin Highway 16 meets the southbound ramps on and off of Interstate 39.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 127 comes from the eastern end of the route, where Wisconsin Highway 16 meets Interstate 39. The interchange between Interstate 39 and Wisconsin Highway 16 has two at-grade intersections with freeway ramps. The western such intersection is also the intersection where Wisconsin Highway 127 reaches its eastern end. This guide assembly for westbound travelers on Wisconsin Highway 16 helps those travelers to figure this out. This photo was taken in December 2017 as I was making my way to northeastern portions of Wisconsin. Back to the Wisconsin main page. Back to the home page.
