^Wisconsin 131 continues north from Wisconsin 33 in Ontario, July 2025. See if you can spot the crow in the photo.
Wisconsin Highway 131 is a north-south highway where central Wisconsin meets western Wisconsin. It runs from Tomah south to Wauzeka. The northern end in Tomah is a four-way intersection used by US Route 12 and Wisconsin Highway 16. US Route 12 comes from the north to turn eastward on Highway 16, which comes from the west; that leaves Wisconsin Highway 131 to get started by occupying the southern leg of that intersection. Highway 131 overall keeps going southward into the Driftless Region, with the occasional nudge westward mixed in. The route meets Wisconsin Highway 71 in Wilton, then it meets Wisconsin Highway 33 in Ontario. The meetings of both of those highways involve slight nudges westward in the form of short concurrencies. Beyond Ontario, Highway 131 continues southward with a visits to La Farge, Viola, and Readstown. Highway 131 joins US Route 61 southward from Readstown to Soldiers Grove. The route continues south to wind through the hills of the Driftless Region, meeting Wisconsin Highway 171 in Gays Mills. It passes the eastern end of Wisconsin Highway 179 in Steuben, and it finally comes to an end at Wisconsin Highway 60 in Wauzeka.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 131 comes from Gays Mills, at a junction with Wisconsin Highway 171. The intersection of these two routes is a four-way intersection, but with some irregular angles between approaches. The shield image for Wisconsin Highway 131 seen on the menu page is derived from this junction marker used by eastbound travelers on Wisconsin Highway 171 (that's how these featured images are chosen). This photo was taken in October 2016 during my day trip around southwestern Wisconsin. Back to the Wisconsin main page. Back to the home page.
