^Wisconsin 133 continues west through the center of the small village of Avoca, September 2019.
Wisconsin Highway 133 is a decently long route passing through small-town areas of southwestern Wisconsin. On maps it's sort of shaped like a "C" with an elongated top. The southern start of Wisconsin Highway 133 is at US Route 61 in Tennyson. The route goes west from there through Potosi to Cassville, where Highway 133 turns toward the north (if it went any farther west, it would sink into the Mississippi River). The northward stint of Highway 133 starts in Cassville and continues onto a concurrency with US Route 61 north. At Patch Grove, Highway 133 turns off of US Route 61 onto US Route 18 east. At Mount Hope, Wisconsin Highway 133 splits northward off of US Route 18 to enter into its final and largest phase. This phase follows the south side of the Wisconsin River, moving upstream toward the east. Highway 133 serves the riverside towns of Woodman, Boscobel, Blue River, Muscoda, and Avoca. The route follows the course of the river for 35 miles before reaching Wisconsin Highway 130. Highway 130 scoops up Highway 133 to carry it northward over an old bridge over the Wisconsin River. The bridge drops Highway 133 traffic in Lone Rock, where the route ends at US Route 14.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 133 is a westbound trailblazer in the center of Avoca, Wisconsin. I can sympathize with the decision to use "South" as the direction on the banner, because the route is shaped like the letter "C". This photo was taken in September 2019 as I was making my way toward Prairie du Chien and northern Iowa. Back to the Wisconsin main page. Back to the home page.
