Wisconsin Highway 140 is a short north-south route in far southern Wisconsin. The route can be found east of Interstate 39, US Route 51, Beloit, and Janesville. The only significant community it serves is Clinton. The northern end is east of Janesville, along the concurrency of US Route 14 and Wisconsin Highway 11. Highway 140 heads south from here to Clinton, where it meets an interchange with Interstate 43 on the north side of town. South of Clinton, Highway 140 crosses Wisconsin Highway 67. One mile beyond Highway 67, Wisconsin Highway 140 becomes Illinois Route 76 as it crosses the state line and ends.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 140 shows the northern end marker near Avalon, at US Route 14 and Wisconsin Highway 11. Wisconsin likes to place its end markers next to its junction markers. Those heading north on Wisconsin Highway 140 can discern that their options no longer include continuation along Highway 140. This photo was taken in August 2015, as I was returning home from the Twin Cities (and the Minnesota State Fair). Back to the Wisconsin main page. Back to the home page.
