^Wisconsin 161 heads west from its start point at Wisconsin 22 and Wisconsin 110, February 2022.
Wisconsin Highway 161 is an east-west route in the northeastern portions of what I'd consider central Wisconsin. It begins east of Stevens Point and carries on eastward for about 23 miles. Eight miles east of Stevens Point, Wisconsin Highway 161 splits from US Route 10. As US Route 10 turns southeasterly, Highway 161 moves nearly due eastward. Soon after its inception, Highway 161 passes by Nelsonville. It intersects Wisconsin Highway 49 at Iola midway through its route. At the east of Highway 161, Highway 110 comes from the north. It catches the traffic from Highway 161 and brings many of them a block south to an intersection with Highway 22. Thus, the eastern end of Highway 161 sort of involves both Highway 110 and Highway 22, north of Manawa.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 161 shows the first westbound reassurance marker seen by those entering the eastern beginning of the route. Those leaving Highway 110 or Highway 22 will know they are moving west down Highway 161, now. This is a bit north of the town of Manawa. This photo was taken during the trip around eastern Wisconsin in February, 2022. Back to the Wisconsin main page. Back to the home page.
