^Wisconsin 164 heads south through the interchange with Interstate 43 near Big Bend,
Wisconsin Highway 164 is a north-south highway in southeastern Wisconsin. It runs from Slinger to Watertown. It skewered right through Waukesha, serving as a primary north-south thoroughfare through town--until Waukesha routed all state highways outside of town onto a bypass. The northern end of Highway 164, located in Slinger, is at Wisconsin Highway 60 just west of Interstate 41. From there, Highway 164 runs due south to the Waukesha area. When it enters Waukesha, it is rocketed off to the east along Interstate 94, which it later exits to follow US Route 18 south and west around the east side of Waukesha. As the bypass arterial carrying US Route 18 curves westerly, Highway 164 hops off to continue due southward, as that was its intention all along. The southern end of Highway 164 is on the east side of Waterford, at Wisconsin Highway 36.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 164 is this set of guide markers previously found along Wisconsin Highway 167. Eastbound travelers on Highway 167 formerly used this signage to navigate the 4-way intersection with Highway 164 when it was a typical 4-way intersection. Since I took this photo in December 2017, during a trip to northeastern Wisconsin, this intersection has been reconstructed into a roundabout. Back to the Wisconsin main page. Back to the home page.
