^Wisconsin 179 is joined by County Road E, and both are about to cross the Kickapoo River into Steuben, October 2016.
Wisconsin Highway 179 is a short east-west highway in southwestern Wisconsin. More specifically, the highway lies within Crawford County, stretching from Eastman to Steuben. The western end in Eastman is at Wisconsin Highway 27, six miles east of the Mississippi River. From here, Highway 179 curves through the rugged hills and bluffs of the Driftless Region for about eight miles. Just before reaching Steuben, the town home to the eastern end of the state highway, County Highway E comes from the north and joins Highway 179 across the Kickapoo River. A mile and a half beyond that, Wisconsin Highway 179 ends in Steuben at Wisconsin Highway 131.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 179 is an eastbound reassurance marker appearing at the point where the state highway converges with County Road E. The two routes will remain concurrent for a mile and a half. County Road E will continue east beyond Steuben, whereas Highway 179 will not. This photo was taken during a day trip around southwestern Wisconsin in October 2016. Back to the Wisconsin main page. Back to the home page.
