^Looking northeastward on Highway 24 from County OO in Hales Corners, October 2022.
Wisconsin Highway 24 is a short diagonal route in Metro Milwaukee. The portion of the highway that was in Waukesha County was deleted, and now it unceremoniously ends at the county line with Milwaukee County. The southwestern extent of Wisconsin Highway 24 is along Janesville Road, running from the county line east into the center of Hales Corners. There, Wisconsin Highway 24 turns northeasterly along Forest Home Avenue. Most of Highway 24 will lie along Forest Home Avenue. It follows that street northeastward through Greenfield into Milwaukee proper. The northeastern end of the state highway is at 27th Street, which carries Wisconsin Highway 241. Wisconsin Highway 24 is only about eight miles long.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 24 is from a partial interchange where Layton Avenue meets Forest Home Avenue. Forest Home Avenue carries Highway 24, and Layton Avenue is an east-west street just south of Interstate 894. Those heading east on Layton Avenue use this sign to locate the left turn to an onramp-- that onramp carries travelers to the northeastward carriageway of Highway 24. By extension, that's a way to reach Interstate 894 (Interstates 41 and 43 are also following the nearby stretch of Interstate 894, so they are also mentioned by the signage). This photo was taken in July 2018 as I was messing around in the Milwaukee area. Back to the Wisconsin main page. Back to the home page.
