^Wisconsin 29, looking east from the interchange with Wisconsin 160, February 2022.
Wisconsin Highway 29 is best known as an expressway running between Green Bay and the Eau Claire area, but it also has incarnations as surface road, east and west of the expressway. The west end of Wisconsin Highway 29 is in Prescott, a town on the Mississippi River. From this endpoint at Wisconsin Highway 35 and US Route 10, Highway 29 heads east as a surface highway that parallels Interstate 94 to the south. At Menomonie, Highway 29 joins US Route 12 east, crossing to the north side of Interstate 94. At this point, Wisconsin 29 breaks away from US Route 12 and begins its long stint as an expressway. It passes through the Eau Claire area, staying on the north side of that city. Highway 29 continues east through farm country, serving towns likeI-94 in Wisconsin Thorp and Abbotsford. In the middle of Wisconsin, Highway 29 serves Wausau, skipping a bit south along US Route 51 to a slightly more southern latitude as it continues beyond that town. From here, Highway 29 continues as an expressway, bound for Shawano and Green Bay. As it approaches Green Bay, a large interchange provides a connection to Interstate 41, beyond which Highway 29 continues as a city street. The state highway joins US Route 141 southeast for a bit, but it jumps eastward to do its own thing once again, as a surface highway. Highway 29 continues east to Kewaunee as a rural two-lane road. In Kewaunee, the route ends at Highway 42.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 29 shows this guide assembly for a triplicate of state routes in Shawano, Wisconsin. The aperture looks north at this sign marking an interchange with Highway 29 and Highway 55's northern continuation into Shawano. From this interchange, the southward continuation of Wisconsin Highway 55 joins Highway 29 toward the east. This photo was taken in February 2022 during my trip around interior eastern Wisconsin.
