Wisconsin Highway 312 is a short but important four-lane highway on the north side of Eau Claire. It has at-grade intersections, so it is not a full expressway. But it completes a ring of four-lane highways encircling downtown Eau Claire. If you're curious, the southern and western sides of that ring are composed of US Route 12, and the east side of the ring is Business US Route 53. The western end of Wisconsin Highway 312 is just beyond the northwest corner of that ring, at Interstate 94 just west of Eau Claire. From here, Highway 312 goes east to join US Route 12 for a short while. That concurrency ends at the northwest corner of the ring of highways surrounding Eau Claire, where US Route 12 splits off to dive southward. Highway 312 continues east for about four miles, crossing Business US Route 53 to end at the main freeway alignment of US Route 53.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 312 is part of a guide assembly used by motorists on a westbound offramp from Interstate 94. This is at the west end of Highway 312. Accessing Highway 312 involves a turn to the right, according to this signage. This photo was taken on the way to the Twin Cities (and the Minnesota State Fair) in late August, 2015.
