^Wisconsin 33 presses on toward the west away from its interactions with Wisconsin 58, July 2025.
Wisconsin Highway 33 is a long east-west highway spanning the full width of the state of Wisconsin, from La Crosse to Port Washington. The route begins within sight of the Mississippi River and the Minnesota state line, and it ends within eyeshot of Lake Michigan. The western end in La Crosse is just south of downtown, at US Route 14. From here, Wisconsin Highway 33 goes east into the rugged Driftless Region. Highway 33 has some very jagged curvy sections in the hills of the Driftless Region. The route passes through several small towns in the hills like Cashton and Ontario. Reedsburg is where Highway 33 emerges from the hills and the curves. Next, Wisconsin Highway 33 passes through Baraboo and Portage. It continues into the eastern half of Wisconsin to Fox Lake, where it dives southeastward for a short spell. In Beaver Dam, Highway 33 corrects toward the east again, and passes through West Bend. Finally, Highway 33 ends at Highway 32 in Port Washington.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 33 comes from the northern end of Wisconsin Highway 146, near Cambria, Wisconsin. I don't know why the signage is explaining how to get to westbound on Highway 33, but it says nothing about the simple right turn to eastbound on Highway 33. Anyway, the sign faces south for those on northbound Highway 146. This photo was taken in February 2022 during my snowy drive around east-central Wisconsin. Back to the Wisconsin main page.
