^Wisconsin 38 looking north at Wisconsin 119, February 2022.
Wisconsin Highway 38 is a fairly short north-south highway in southeastern Wisconsin. It leads south out of Milwaukee toward Racine. The route begins at Wisconsin Highway 59 in a central neighborhood of Milwaukee, just across the river from downtown. Wisconsin Highway 38 starts out going south along 6th Street, then using Chase Street to cut southeasterly to Howell Avenue. Wisconsin Highway 38 follows Howell Avenue for a long time, all the way to Caledonia. The route jolts eastward at Caledonia, and then it winds southeasterly toward Racine. The last short piece of the route straightens out toward the east along State Street in Racine. Highway 38 comes to an end at Wisconsin Highway 32 within a few blocks of the Lake Michigan shoreline.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 38 shows a guide marker meant for westbound travelers on Layton Avenue. The intersection between Layton Avenue and Highway 38 forms the northwest corner of the Mitchell Airport property. This photo was taken looking west, sometime in July 2018 during a drive around the Milwaukee area. Since Layton Avenue is a commonly-used shortcut to reach the southern end of Wisconsin Highway 794, a "To Highway 794" guide marker sits across the street for the eastbound traffic. That guide marker is the photo on the Wisconsin Highway 794 page, and it's across the street from the photo seen here! Back to the Wisconsin main page. Back to the home page.
