^Wisconsin 52's eastern trailblazer for those leaving the US Route 51 interchange in Wausau, December 2017.
Wisconsin Highway 52 is a jagged highway in north-central Wisconsin. It runs northeast from Wausau to the small town of Wabeno. The southwestern beginning of the highway splits from Wisconsin Highway 29 just barely west of US Route 51, in Wausau. Wisconsin Highway 52's first task is to bring motorists through downtown Wausau, so they can see what it has to offer. Besides Business US Route 51, Wisconsin Highway 52 is the only numbered route navigating the surface streets of Wausau. After this, Wisconsin Highway 52 winds northeasterly to Antigo, joining US Route 45 south of town. In Anitgo, Highway 52 turns easterly and northeasterly once again, taking drivers through more twists and turns. Wisconsin Highway 52 enters forested territory, meeting Wisconsin Highway 55 alongside the Wolf River. Finally, Wisconsin Highway 52 ends at Wisconsin Highway 32 near Wabeno, just south of US Route 8.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 52 is a westbound trailblazer in Wausau, at the intersection with 17th Avenue. US Route 51 is just to the west, and so is the western end of Highway 52. This photo was taken during a trip to northeastern Wisconsin in December 2017. Back to the Wisconsin main page.
