^Looking east from the roundabout at Wisconsin Highway 35, north of Siren, July 2025.
Wisconsin Highway 70 runs east-west across the full extent of northern Wisconsin, from Grantsburg to Florence. The route begins as Minnesota Highway 70 crosses the St. Croix River into Wisconsin, west of Grantsburg. Grantsburg is the town where Highway 70 meets the northwest end of both Wisconsin Highways 48 and 87. Next, Wisconsin Highway 70 meets Wisconsin Highway 35 at Siren. Then, the route continues eastward to Spooner, where travelers on Highway 70 will encounter US Route 63 and US Route 53. South of Park Falls, Wisconsin Highway 70 crosses Wisconsin Highway 13. At Woodruff, just north of Minocqua, Wisconsin Highway 70 joins US Route 51 north for a short spell, splitting off to continue eastward at Arbor Vitae. Next, Highway 70 heads eastward to Eagle River, where it interacts with US Route 45, Wisconsin Highway 32, and Wisconsin Highway 17. The remainder of Highway 70 until Florence is rural and densely wooded. Much of this portion is in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Finally, Wisconsin Highway 70 ends coincident with Wisconsin Highway 101, at US Route 2 and US Route 141. Turning in either direction onto the pair of US Routes will carry a driver into Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 70 shows an eastbound trailblazer by those disembarking from the interchange with US Route 53 on the east side of Spooner. The aperture points east toward the woods east of Spooner. This photo was taken in July 2025 during a trip to northwestern Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota. Back to the Wisconsin main page.
