^Wisconsin 80 continues north from the point where it cuts off Wisconsin 58, causing that highway to end south of Necedah, August 2020.
Wisconsin Highway 80 is a north-south highway in central and southwestern portions of Wisconsin, running between Hazel Green and Marshfield. The southern beginning of Wisconsin Highway 80 is the crossing of the state line where Illinois Route 84 reaches its northern end. This is just a bit north of Galena, Illinois. Just north of its inception, Wisconsin Highway 80 passes through Hazel Green, meeting Wisconsin Highway 11. After this, Wisconsin Highway 80 serves many other towns in southwestern Wisconsin, including Platteville, Highland, Muscoda, and Richland Center. It continues north through Hillsboro and Elroy, meeting Interstates 90 and 94 at New Lisbon. The section of highway in the vicinity of New Lisbon angles northeasterly, until reaching Necedah. North of Necedah, Wisconsin Highway 80 rockets northward through rural areas. Wisconsin Highway 80 approaches Marshfield from the south, but US Route 10 cuts it off before it can reach town. The junction with US Route 10 marks the northern end of Wisconsin Highway 80; Wisconsin Highways 13 and 97 continue north from this area.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 80 shows the first northbound trailblazer seen by those crossing the state line out of Illinois. The aperture looks north at a motorist's first glimpses of the state of Wisconsin. Here, the roadway transitions from Illinois Route 84 to Wisconsin Highway 80. This photo was taken in November 2023 during a day trip to Dubuque, Iowa. Back to the Wisconsin main page. Back to the home page.
