Wisconsin Highway 87 is a north-south highway hugging the western edge of the state of Wisconsin, between St. Croix Falls and Grantsburg. The highway begins just east of the Minnesota border along US Route 8, in St. Croix Falls. From there, it heads north for little more than twenty miles, within decently close proximity to the St. Croix River. Alongside the Fish Lake Wildlife Area, Wisconsin Highway 48 comes from the east and joins Highway 87 north for that route's final five miles. In Grantsburg, Highways 87 and 48 end together at an intersection with Wisconsin Highway 70 in Grantsburg.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 87 comes from the intersection where Wisconsin Highway 48 converges with it, about five miles south of Grantsburg. The aperture looks west at signage serving westbound travelers along Highway 48, who learn from this signage that Highway 48 turns to the north along Highway 87. This photo was taken in July 2025 as part of the trip through western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota. Back to the Wisconsin main page. Back to the home page.
