^Wisconsin 89 continues north from its junction with County TV near Waterloo, February 2022.
Wisconsin Highway 89 is a north-south route connecting a lot of different towns in southern Wisconsin. It runs where south-central Wisconsin blends into southeastern Wisconsin. The southern end is near Darien, Wisconsin, at an intersection that also serves as the eastern end of the concurrency of Wisconsin Highway 11 and US Route 14. Wisconsin Highway 89 runs northward from here to Whitewater, where it joins US Route 12 northwest. The state highway splits from US Route 12 in downtown Fort Atkinson, where Highway 89 begins a new phase of serving as a business alternate for Wisconsin Highway 26. As the Wisconsin Highway 26 freeway heads north to Jefferson, Highway 89 stays a quaint surface highway that runs parallel to Jefferson. Beyond Jefferson, Highway 89 bends toward the northeast so it can reach Lake Mills and Waterloo. After a short concurrency with Highway 19 in Waterloo, Highway 89 turns northerly onto its final stretch. The final endpoint of Wisconsin Highway 89 is in Columbus, at northeast-southeast street that carries Wisconsin Highway 73 and Business US Route 151.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 89 is a guide marker in Waterloo, explaining to westbound travelers the implications of their decisions. The drivers seeing this signage are on a concurrency between Highways 19 and 89, which are about to split up. Highway 89 will turn toward the north while Highway 19 continues straight toward the west. This photo was taken in February 2022 on a cold, wintry trip around eastern Wisconsin.
