^Wisconsin 95 starts off toward the east by leaving the intersection with Highway 35 in Fountain City, July 2025.
Wisconsin Highway 95 is an east-west surface route through west-central Wisconsin. It begins along the Mississippi River, somewhat upriver (northwest) of La Crosse and Winona, Minnesota. It heads northeastward into the hills Driftless Region, but it soon straightens out, more or less, toward the east. The western end of Wisconsin Highway 95 is at Wisconsin Highway 35 in Fountain City, a small village along the riverside. From here, Wisconsin Highway 95 elevates into the hills of the Driftless Region, winding around in an overall northeastward direction. In Arcadia, where the highway meets Wisconsin Highway 93, Wisconsin Highway 95 begins to align itself more eastward. The curvy nature of the roadway is maintained, though, at least until it meets US Route 53 in Blair. Things start to straighten out and flatten out beyond Blair, though, as Wisconsin Highway 95 heads eastward toward an interchange with Interstate 94. Beyond that interchange at Hixton, Wisconsin Highway 95 juts northeastward to converge with Wisconsin Highway 121 at Alma Center. Highway 95 continues east some more, meeting US Route 12 at Merrillan, and then it ends at Wisconsin Highway 73 just south of Neillsville.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 95 shows the first trailblazer greeting those who encounter the western beginning of the route. Those in Fountain City who turn east off of Wisconsin Highway 35 will see this sign. This photo was taken in July 2025 during my trip north through western Wisconsin, which then led me southward through eastern Minnesota. Back to the Wisconsin main page. Back to the home page.
