^Wisconsin 96 starts off toward the west from an interchange with Interstate 43 in Denmark, Wisconsin, February 2022.
Wisconsin Highway 96 is an east-west surface highway in Appleton and the surrounding area. It reaches east to Interstate 43 at Denmark, Wisconsin, and it reaches west to Fremont, where it ends at US Route 10. An interchange on the southeast side of Fremont is where Wisconsin Highway 96 begins, starting off toward the north. After a fraction of a mile, it turns toward the east. It crosses US Route 45 and heads straight eastward through Dale. Next, it enters the Appleton area. It crosses under Interstate 41 with a diamond interchange, and then it heads right through Appleton. Wisconsin Highway 96 is always a little bit north of US Route 10, and the next section where it exits Appleton is no exception. The next purpose for Highway 96 is to serve Grand Chute and Kaukauna, two villages included into the Appleton area. At Wrightstown, Wisconsin Highway 96 crosses the Fox River. Next, it crosses Wisconsin Highway 32 at Greenleaf. The route keeps going east, then it jogs north a bit to its final eastward stretch. That final eastward stretch ends at the town of Denmark at Interstate 43.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 96 shows an eastbound trailblazer that appears to those heading east from Interstate 41. The aperture looks east toward the heart of Appleton, as I was positioned on the city's western side. This photo was taken in December 2017, during an impromptu weekend trip I took up to northeastern Wisconsin because the weather was surprisingly favorable! Back to the Wisconsin main page.
