Wisconsin Highway 97 is one of the shorter routes, heading north out of Marshfield into increasing tree cover in areas west of Wausau. The southern beginning of Highway 97 is at Wisconsin Highway 13 right in town, and then it heads northeast out of Marshfield. It soon corrects toward the north, paralleling Wisconsin Highway 13 to the east. Highway 97 crosses Wisconsin Highway 153 in Stratford. After that, it presses on northward through an interchange with an expressway carrying Wisconsin Highway 29. It presses on through to Athens, and it carries on to enter its final stretch. The final stretch ends at Wisconsin Highway 64 east of Medford, Wisconsin.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 97 shows a guide assembly in Marshfield, along Wisconsin Highway 13. Those heading southeastward on Wisconsin Highway 13 will see this signage pointing out the upcoming left turn onto the southern beginning of Wisconsin Highway 97. This photo was taken in August 2020 as I was heading northward on Wisconsin Highway 13 to Ashland, on a trip that would eventually involve a whole lot of northern Michigan.
