In Wisconsin, Interstate 43 runs from Green Bay to Milwaukee to Beloit. In fact, that's all Interstate 43 ever does, because the route never leaves the State of Wisconsin. The highway begins at an interchange a mile north of the Illinois state line along Interstates 39 and 90 in Beloit. Interstate 43 heads northeastward from there. With the end goal of reaching Milwaukee, Interstate 43 serves Delavan, Elkhorn, East Troy, and Mukwonago in southern Wisconsin. Next, Interstate 43 enters the Milwaukee metropolitan area. It joins Interstates 41 and 894 east. Then, at the Mitchell Interchange, Interstate 43 joins Interstate 94 northward, as Interstate 894 ends and Interstate 94 comes from the south. Interstates 43 and 94 head northward into downtown Milwaukee, where they split apart at the Marquette Interchange. The Marquette Interchange is also where Interstate 794 stems off to the east. Interstate 43 continues north to the north side of Milwaukee and beyond. Thus begins the second phase of Interstate 43, where it runs north-south along Lake Michigan, between Milwaukee and Green Bay. There aren't many populated areas on this stretch of Interstate 43, besides Port Washington, Sheboygan, and Manitowoc. Interstate 43 turns northwesterly toward Green Bay. But as Interstate 43 approaches Green Bay, it bounces northeast off of the Wisconsin 172 freeway, to form the east edge of a set of freeways encircling Green Bay. After the jog northeast, Interstate 43 turns westerly along the city's shoreline on the bay (Green Bay's shoreline on Green Bay). This westward stint is the last stretch of Interstate 43, which ends at US Route 41, US Route 141, and Interstate 41. Most northbound travelers reaching this terminus will continue northward on US Route 41, which is still a freeway for a bit longer.

This is the photo I chose for Interstate 43 because I consider cutout Interstates shields to be a rare and precious sight in Wisconsin. This sign faces north on the main north-south drag through town, and the sign directs people to a right turn onto the westward road that reaches the interchange with Interstate 43. This photo was taken in July 2015 during a trip north to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
