^Eastbound trailblazer at Ohio 13 in Mount Vernon, Ohio, October 2022.
US Route 36 runs across the middle of Ohio, paralleling Interstate 70 to the north. The next layer of counties north of those served by Interstate 70 is the east-west corridor where you can find US Route 36. However, US Route 36 doesn't continue farther east beyond Uhrichsville, in Tuscarawas County, where the highway ends. The western extent of US Route 36 in Ohio is the Indiana state line near Greenville, Ohio. US Route 36 goes east to Greenville , jumping north on US Route 127 to a new eastward alignment. Next, US Route 36 meets Interstate 75 in Piqua. US Route 36 continues on to five county seats in a row: Urbana, Marysville, Delaware, Mount Vernon, and Coshocton. Notice that it stays north of Interstate 70, which serves Dayton, Springfield, and Columbus. At the eastern extent of US Route 36, in Tuscarawas County, the route passes through Gnadenhutten just before ending at US Route 250 in Uhrichsville.
My photo of US Route 36 in Ohio comes from Sunbury, in eastern Delaware County. At this four-way intersection, Ohio Route 3 runs southwest to northeast, and Ohio Route 37 runs from southeast to northwest. US Route 36 turns from southeast to northeast, trying to maintain an east-west course. The pair of trailblazers shown here greets the people leaving the intersection toward the northeast; Ohio Route 3 just came from the southwest to continue northeastward, and US Route 36 just turned left off of the southeastward approach. This photo was taken in October 2022 on the way to northeastern Ohio from Columbus. Back to the Ohio US Highways page. Back to the Ohio main page. Back to the home page.
