^Looking west from the intersection with Wisconsin 169, August 2020.
In Wisconsin, US Route 2 runs east-west across the northern end of the state. The route enters Wisconsin in the Duluth-Superior area, and it cuts east to Ashland and Hurley from there. US Route 2 leaves Wisconsin by making the crossing to Ironwood, Michigan. Between Superior and Ashland, US Route 2 doesn't hug the northern edge of the state and the shoreline of Lake Superior. That's what Wisconsin Highway 13 is for. Instead, it cuts a relatively straight path between these two communities. East of Ashland, however, US Route 2 stays within a few miles of Lake Superior, and in Ashland, the waters are visible from US Route 2 in some spots.
My photo of a route marker for US Route 2 in Wisconsin shows a guide assembly for westbound travelers encountering the junction with Wisconsin Highway 169. This junction is a bit west of Saxon, and it's halfway between Ashland and Hurley. I took this photo during a morning in August 2020, on the way to Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
