^Looking east beyond the junction with Wisconsin 171 near Boaz, July 2026.
In Wisconsin, US Route 14 runs from La Crosse to Walworth along a path with an east-southeastward orientation. US Route 14 crosses the Mississippi River out of southeastern Minnesota on a bridge that plops travelers right in the heart of La Crosse. US Route 14 joins Wisconsin Highway 35 south for a short spell along the eastern banks of the Mississippi River, before turning eastward again. US Route 14 then zigzags through parts of the rugged Driftless Region of southwestern Wisconsin, passing through Viroqua and Richland Center. Through Viroqua to Readstown, US Route 14 carries US Route 61 ever since it left Minnesota. Readstown is where US Route 14 can finally carry on eastward without a concurrency. At a point southeast of Richland Center, US Route 14 encounters the valley of the westward-flowing Wisconsin River. The route begins to follow the valley eastward (upriver). At Mazomanie, US Route 14 begins to drift east-southeastward away from the river valley, meeting US Route 12 at Middleton. US Route 14 joins US Route 12 south and east along the Madison Beltine, one of the foremost freeways in the Madison area. Due south of downtown Madison, US Route 14 departs US Route 12 and the Beltline to go straight south toward Oregon and Evansville. At Evansville, US Route 14 turns more easterly to serve Janesville, where it meets US Route 51 and Interstate 39. Beyond Janesville, US Route 14 goes southeastward through Walworth to cross the state line into Illinois. This border crossing is just north of Harvard, Illinois.
My photo for US Route 14 comes from an intersection with US Route 51 in Janesville. There was an older sign that I used to feature for US Route 14 in Wisconsin, coming from the same intersection, and that is still visible below. But this newer and improved photo shows a northbound set of guide markers for drivers approaching from the south. This photo was taken on a day drive along Interstate 39, US Route 51, and Interstate 94, in February 2026.
My former photo for US Route 14 in Wisconsin shows a westbound trailblazer found at an intersection with US Route 51. This sign is seen by those turning off of US Route 51 toward the west in Janesville. This photo was taken on a roundabout way to the Twin Cities in August 2015. Back to the Wisconsin main page.
