US Route 264 is a short east-west alternate to US Route 64, which runs in eastern North Carolina. The highway runs east from Raleigh to Manns Harbor, at the western approach to the bridge departing the mainland for Roanoke Island and the Outer Banks. The western majority of the corridor is a freeway that is being labelled by North Carolina as Interstate 587. North Carolina is trying to replace US Route 264's freeway segment with the Interstate designation, meaning US Route 264 is being exiled to the surface highway that parallels the newer freeway. The official western end of US Route 264 is where US Route 64 meets Interstate 440 on the east side of Raleigh. The eastern end of US Route 264 converges with US Route 64 just before US Route 64 crosses the intracoastal waterway to Roanoke Island.
My photo of US Route 264 comes from the surface road alignment of the route. This westbound trailblazer serves those leaving the freeway of Interstate 587 and US Route 264 at exit 32. This photo was taken during my trip across the Carolinas and the Delmarva in April, 2024. Back to the nationwide main page. Back to the home page.
