^Looking east from the northern convergence with US Route 141 near Niagara, July 2022.
In Wisconsin, US Route 8 spans the state, running east-west through the North Woods. US Route 8 doesn't really do much besides this in general; it barely protrudes into Minnesota and into Upper Michigan. US Route 8 enters Wisconsin crossing the St. Croix River in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. From there, it runs eastward through rural areas and towns. US Route 8 meets US Route 63 at Turtle Lake, and it crosses Wisconsin 25 in Barron. In north central Wisconsin, it meets US Route 51 just before serving Rhinelander. As US Route 8 moves into northeastern Wisconsin, it passes through Crandon. It joins US Route 141 northward for a bit, then it splits away near Niagara to enter Michigan. When it enters Michigan, US Route 8 is very near its eastern endpoint in Norway, Michigan.
My photo of a route marker for US Route 8 in Wisconsin comes from its junction with Wisconsin Highway 13 at Prentice, Wisconsin. This is about 25 miles west of Rhinelander. The signage depicted helps northbound travelers find how to reach US Route 8 from Wisconsin Highway 13: it's an offramp comprising part of a diamond interchange. This photo was taken on the way to Ashland and the Upper Peninsula in August 2020. Back to the Wisconsin main page. Back to the home page.
