^Looking east from the junction with what was Wisconsin Highway 75, just west of Union Grove, February 2022.
Wisconsin Highway 11 is the definitive east-west route across southernmost Wisconsin. Many east-west state highways traverse southern Wisconsin, but hardly any of them span the entire width of the state. Wisconsin Highway 11 runs from the Mississippi River near Dubuque, Iowa, all the way east to Racine, a city on Lake Michigan. To go into greater specifics, the west end of Wisconsin Highway 11 is at an interchange with a freeway that carries both US Route 61 and US Route 151. It is the first interchange encountered by drivers who cross the Mississippi River out of Iowa, on that freeway. Highway 11 serves important towns in Wisconsin like Monroe, Janesville, Delavan, Elkhorn, and Burlington. Then it ends its eastward journey at Wisconsin Highway 32 in Racine, at a junction within a half-mile of the Lake Michigan shoreline.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 11 comes from South Wayne, a small town west of Monroe, in Lafayette County. This photo shows a junction marker found on County Highway D, signaling to northbound travelers that they will encounter Highway 11 soon, if they continue ahead. This photo was taken during a day trip to southwestern portions of Wisconsin in October 2016.
