Wisconsin Highway 124 is a short north-south highway near Chippewa Falls, north of Eau Claire. The route begins at an interchange along US Route 53 in Lake Hallie; it's the first interchange south of Wisconsin Highway 29. Highway 124 jumps west to a northbound highway that also carries the business alignment for US Route 53 into Chippewa Falls.  Serving downtown Chippewa Falls appears to be Wisconsin Highway 124's main purpose.  From there, Highway 124 just shoots off straight toward the north until some other route catches it. That other highway is Wisconsin Highway 64, and Highway 124 ends at Highway 64 in the middle of nowhere, 12 miles north of Chippewa Falls. This northern terminus is several miles east of Bloomer.

The southern terminus in Lake Hallie has travelers on Highway 124 pointed east at an interchange with US Route 53. The end marker faces west at those people who must now find a different highway to follow! This photo was taken in August 2015, on the way home from the Twin Cities.
