Wisconsin Highway 55 is a pretty long north-south highway in northeastern Wisconsin. It begins near the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago. As US Route 151 decides it wants to quit heading northward, instead turning east to Chilton and Manitowoc, Wisconsin Highway 55 where US Route 151 leaves off. Wisconsin Highway 55 says, "don't worry; if you wanted to continue northward, I have got your back." Highway 55 heads north through Kaukauna, staying east of Appleton but west of Green Bay. It serves Freedom and Seymour, continuing north to Wisconsin Highway 29. When it reaches Highway 29, it joins that highway westward for a long time. The portion of Highway 55 north of Highway 29 and the portion south of Highway 29 feel like two different highways. At Shawano, Highway 55 finally splits from Wisconsin Highway 29 and it continues north into the Menominee Reservation. Then, Wisconsin Highway 55 continues north into the woods, crossing Wisconsin Highway 64 in Langlade. From Shawano to Pickerel, Highway 55 follows the eastern bank of the Wolf River. At Pickerel, Wisconsin Highway 55 steers northerly away from the river, toward Crandon. Soon, Wisconsin Highway 55 is passing right through Crandon and continuing northward, deeper into the North Woods. It crosses Wisconsin Highway 70 and passes through the nearby town of Alvin. Finally, Wisconsin Highway 55 ends at the Michigan state line, becoming Michigan Highway 73, and the roadway continues toward Iron River, Michigan.

My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 55 comes from Shawano, where it splits from Wisconsin Highway 29 to continue north. The guide markers depicted face south to show motorists the way to the onramp to Wisconsin Highway 29 north. They also show that Wisconsin Highways 47 and 55 are also joining the eastbound lanes, both having come from the north. This photo was taken in February 2022 during my trip to interior eastern Wisconsin.
