Wisconsin Highway 72 is a short east-west highway in western Wisconsin. It begins on the west side of the Chippewa River south of Menomonie, at Wisconsin Highway 25. This is at an unincorporated place called Downsville. From here, Wisconsin Highway 72 heads westward through Elmwood to Ellsworth. As Highway 72 approaches Ellsworth, US Route 63 comes from the north and joins the route toward the west. Soon after this, Wisconsin Highway 72 ends at US Route 10, as US Route 10 picks up US Route 63 to carry it farther into Ellsworth.
My photo of a route marker for Wisconsin Highway 72 shows this signage for northbound travelers along Wisconsin Highway 25 in Downsville. The eastern extent of Highway 72 is here at this terminal point of that route. This photo was taken in July 2025 as part of a trip around western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota.
