Illinois 154 is a somewhat significant east-west route in the western half of southern Illinois. It runs west from the Interstate 57 corridor which bisects the southern part of the state, through areas south of Mount Vernon and Saint Louis, but north of Marion and Carbondale.
Illinois 154 begins in the west at the junction in Red Bud with Illinois 3 and Illinois 159. Here, Illinois 3 comes from the south and turns to the west, and Illinois 159 originates at this point to go north:

At Sparta, Illinois 154 crosses Illinois 4:
Just east of Sparta, at the hamlet of Eden, Illinois 154 meets the southern end of Illinois 153 at a "wye" intersection:
