Ohio State Route 557 is a fairly short route in eastern Holmes County. It runs northwest-southeast in an area of Ohio southwest of Canton, or west of New Philadelphia. The northwestern end is at US Route 62 and Ohio Route 39, just west of Berlin, Ohio. The southeastern end lies just north of Baltic, at Ohio Route 643. Ohio Route 557 is very consistently twisted, curving this way and that through the hills of eastern Ohio.
My photo for Ohio Route 557 comes from a turn in the roadway very close to the highway's northern end, near Berlin. The sign indicates to northbound travelers that Ohio Route 557 is about to turn toward the west, at an intersection where another road stems off to the east. That road stemming off to the east is a shortcut that can bring these northbound travelers to Berlin. This photo was taken during the grand tour of the northeastern quarter of Ohio, on a day in October 2022 when a crew was paving new asphalt on the roadway.
