Ohio State Route 253 is a very tiny route designation found along the Ohio River, or the Kentucky border, between Portsmouth and Ironton. The designation applies to a road connecting to Kentucky State Route 10. Along a northward jog in the Ohio River's course, US Route 52 parallels the river on Ohio land on the east side of the river. A diamond interchange connects to a road that crosses the bridge as Kentucky State Route 10. That road is called Ohio Route 253 for the three tenths of a mile that it spends in Ohio. Ohio Route 253, which started at the state line, ends at the interchange with US Route 52.
My photo for Ohio State Route 253 shows an eastern end marker, planted at the intersection with the northward-flowing interchange ramps from US Route 52. The offramp comes from the northbound side, and the onramp goes to the northbound side; but the northbound side is part of the overall westbound direction of US Route 52. The only movement permitted by travelers reaching the stop sign in the photo is a left turn. The photo you see here was taken in March 2021, during the grand tour around the southeastern quarter of Ohio. Back to Ohio Routes 200-299. Back to the Ohio main page. Back to the home page.
