Ohio State Route 47 is a highway running west from the approximate center of Ohio to the Indiana border. It begins at Waldo, a town along US Route 23 that's halfway between Marion and Delaware. A diamond interchange along US Route 23 spawns the southern ends of both Ohio Route 98 and Ohio Route 423, but it also spawns the eastern beginning of Ohio Route 47. The road heads west for a mere block to a T-intersection, where Ohio Route 423 turns northerly and Ohio Route 47 turns southerly. Ohio Route 47 heads south through Waldo and turns westerly to really get started; the southbound alignment continues as Ohio Route 229. Now that Ohio Route 47 can really get going, it heads west across the entire western half of Ohio, serving Prospect, Richwood, and other towns. It enters Bellefontaine and serves as one of the main east-west thoroughfares through town. After serving Bellefontaine, Ohio Route 47 is a rural route until it reaches Sidney, where it meets Interstate 75. Ohio Route 47 continues westerly into Darke County, where it reaches Versailles, Ansonia, and Union City. Union City, on the Indiana border, is where Ohio Route 47 ends. It and Ohio Route 571 join together to cross the border, where they will become Indiana State Routes 28 and 32.
My photo of Ohio State Route 47 shows a westbound trailblazer seen by those leaving the interchange with Interstate 75 in Sidney. This is one of my oldest Ohio photos, taken back in August 2013.
