Ohio State Route 293 is a jagged spur north to the town of Wharton, from the east-west portion of Ohio Route 53 and the US Route 30 corridor. In western Wyandot County, Ohio Route 53 is running east-west as a surface alternate to US Route 30's expressway (Ohio Route 53 is otherwise overall a north-south highway). Near the tiny town of Kirby, Ohio Route 293 stems north from Ohio Route 53 through Kirby and over US Route 30 (no access is provided). After inching north of US Route 30, Ohio Route 293 jogs westerly along a former alignment of US Route 30 to a new more westerly longitude. Ohio Route 293 then turns northward along a road at a more westerly longitude, to spur into Wharton. The state highway turns westerly onto Sandusky Street, to end looking west in the heart of Wharton (the endpoint in Wharton is shown above).
My photo for Ohio State Route 293 comes from the eastern extent of its stint along the former alignment of US Route 30, north of Kirby. At this point, Ohio Route 293 has finished its first northward segment from Ohio Route 53, and it's looking to turn westerly onto old US Route 30. But the photo looks east at a guide marker for those looking to turn southerly toward Kirby. The travelers following Ohio Route 293 may have started in Wharton, and if they're putting this sign to good use, they're turning from eastbound to southbound toward Kirby and Ohio Route 53. (I thought I would be finding Ohio Route 699 here, but Ohio Route 699 no longer exists.) This photo was taken in October 2016, on the grand detour from West Virginia to Toledo.
