^Northbound trailblazer for those leaving Iowa 3 onto the beginning section of Iowa 143 at Marcus, September 2019.
Iowa Route 143 is a short, straight, north-south highway in northwestern Iowa. The area home to Iowa Route 143 is about 25 miles northeast of Sioux City. Iowa Route 143's northern end is at Iowa Route 10, between Granville and Paulina. The southern end is in the town of Marcus at Iowa Route 3. As the southern end of Iowa Route 143 is just east of the northern end of Iowa Route 140, IowaDOT may have decided to give both routes the same designation; alas, they did not make that choice, as IowaDOT is not a fan of concurrencies like some other states.
My photo of Iowa Route 143 comes from the highway's northern terminus at Iowa Route 143. The signage depicted is the eastbound guide assembly, facing west at travelers heading east on Iowa Route 10. This photo came from the September 2019 trip across northern Iowa; as it was late in the day, with the sun to the west, photos facing east had the more favorable lighting at this time of the day.
