Ohio State Route 83 is a long north-south highway from northeastern Ohio to southeastern Ohio. Avon Lake is the site of Ohio Route 83's northern beginning, right along the shores of Lake Erie at US Route 6. This is in the western extended universe of the Cleveland metropolitan area. Ohio Route 83 heads south through the original town of Avon, and enters rural areas just after flanking the east side of Elyria. Ohio Route 83 serves as the main north-south highway through Lodi, where it meets US Route 42 and US Route 224. Then, Ohio Route 83 approaches Wooster. Whereas the highway used to skewer right through downtown Wooster, it now uses an expressway bypass around the east side of town. At the end of this bypass, Ohio Route 83 jogs back west to get back on track and continue south to Millersburg and Holmes County. The route winds through the hills of Holmes and Coshocton Counties, reaching the town of Coshocton. After meeting Ohio Route 16 and US Route 36 in Coshocton, Ohio Route 83 becomes a very rural, curvy route through more hill country. It continues beyond Interstate 70 west of Cambridge. The route then passes through eastern Morgan County before making a short foray into Washington County. Ohio Route 83 ends at Ohio Route 60 a mile northwest of Beverly, in northern Washington County.
My photo of Ohio State Route 83 comes from the unincorporated junction known as Belden, where the route meets Ohio Route 57 and Ohio Route 303. As Ohio Route 57 exits Grafton southeasterly toward Medina, it gets interrupted by Ohio Route 83, which carries Ohio Route 57 south for a bit. Ohio Route 57 then turns east on Ohio Route 303 at Belden. This pair of trailblazers faces travelers leaving the junction at Belden toward the north. The north-south road here continues north carrying both Ohio Routes 57 and 83 away from Ohio Route 303. This photo was taken in October 2022, during my tour of northeastern Ohio.
