Ohio State Route 87 stems easterly out of downtown Cleveland to run across suburban and rural portions of northeastern Ohio. In Metro Cleveland, Ohio Route 87's main purpose is to serve Shaker Boulevard, and take over for US Route 422 when that US highway decides to jump ship from Chagrin Boulevard. Ohio Route 87 is one of the many routes originating at Public Square in downtown Cleveland. It starts by sharing pavement with US Route 422 and Ohio Route 8, which both depart down Kinsman Road. Meanwhile, Ohio Route 87 is using Woodland Avenue and Buckeye Road to get to Shaker Boulevard. Ohio Route 87 serves Shaker Heights using Shaker Boulevard. When it's done doing that, Ohio Route 87 jogs south on Ohio Route 175 to use Chagrin Boulevard. Chagrin Boulevard was carrying US Route 422, which wants to join Interstate 271 south. US Route 422 does just that, leaving Ohio Route 87 to venture alone into the rural openness of northeast Ohio. The remainder of Ohio Route 87 is very rural, passing through only a few very small towns. Ohio Route 87 ends on the north side of another very small town called Kinsman, at Ohio Route 5 and Ohio Route 7. This pair of routes shares a concurrency a few miles west of the Pennsylvania border.
My photo of Ohio State Route 87 looks west from the eastern end at Ohio Route 7 and Ohio Route 5 in Kinsman. This is the first westbound trailblazer, seen by those who turn off of Ohio Routes 5 and 7. Like all of my other northeastern Ohio photos, this photo was taken during the grand tour of northeastern Ohio in October 2022. Back to Ohio Routes 1-99. Back to the Ohio main page.
