​Ohio State Route 556 is a twelve-mile route in northeastern Monroe County.  It runs from Beallsville, an inland town, to Clarington, on the Ohio River.  The northwestern end in Beallsville is at Ohio Route 145.  Ohio Route 556 winds southeasterly through the hilly country, to end at Ohio Route 7 on the northern edge of Clarington.

My photo for Ohio Route 556 comes from the southeastern end, at the northern brink of Clarington.  The Ohio River laid just to the right of where I was standing, looking north along Ohio Route 7, when I took this photo.  The signage here points out the eastern beginning to Ohio Route 556, to those heading northward on Ohio Route 7.  This photo was taken in March 2021, as I was touring around southeastern Ohio.
