US Route 231 in Indiana runs north-south in the western part of the state. While US Route 41 is the westernmost major north-south highway in Indiana, US Route 231 is the second farthest west of Indiana's US highways. US Route 231 starts at US Route 41 in St. John, heads east through Crown Point, and then turns southerly through the rest of the state. US Route 231 is often a rather important highway, connecting locales like Lafayette, Crawfordsville, Bloomfield, and Jasper. Just northeast of Owensboro, Kentucky, US Route 231 crosses the Ohio River into the state of Kentucky, where it turns to follow the Ohio River into Owensboro itself.
