Ohio State Route 85 is a very-short entrance to Pennsylvania from Andover, in northeastern Ohio. The Pymatuning Reservoir, a lake along the border between Ohio and Pennsylvania, once blocked US Route 6's progress eastward to the village of Conneaut Lake in Pennsylvania. That caused the course of US Route 6 to be altered, so it could go around the north side of the reservoir. The altered course of US Route 6 joins Ohio Route 7 north in Andover to another easterly road that it takes across the state line. Since US Route 6 was rerouted, however, a causeway and a bridge was built for the easterly road continuing east out of Andover, and that road connects to Conneaut Lake along an alignment that would have been US Route 6 in the past. It would stand to reason that US Route 6 was returned to its former alignment, now that it can cross the lake that was once the disabling obstacle to its progress. For some reason, though, US Route 6 still takes the indirect route north along Ohio Route 7 to a different easterly road found farther north. The direct route between Andover and Conneaut Lake is a state highway, though; in Ohio, it is labeled Ohio Route 85, and in Pennsylvania, the route has the designation of Pennsylvania Highway 285. All of this context is here to explain that Ohio Route 85 stems easterly out of Andover to the Pennsylvania border, running for not even three miles. The state line crossing occurs along the causeway over the Pymatuning Reservoir.
My photo of Ohio State Route 85 shows the western end marker of the route, at Andover's central town square, which also has US Route 6 and Ohio Route 7 navigating through it. This sign assembly sits on the central square, which serves as a sort of roundabout. That's why the arrows only point toward the right. Ohio Route 7 stems northerly and southerly out of the square, and US Route 6 stems westerly and northerly out of the square. Like all of my other northeastern Ohio photos, this photo was taken during the grand tour of northeastern Ohio in October 2022. Back to Ohio Routes 1-99. Back to the Ohio main page.
