Ohio State Route 697 is a short east-west route in eastern Van Wert County. It fills in a short gap in the highway network, completing a path from Van Wert to Delphos. Ohio Route 116 runs west out of Van Wert, bending south once it completes half of the trip to Delphos. Ohio Route 697 begins at that bend to the south, continuing east in Ohio Route 116's stead. Once it reached Delphos, Ohio Route 697 makes a few turns from street to street until it ends in the middle of town, at Ohio Routes 66 and 190.
My photo for Ohio Route 697 comes from the corner of 2nd Street and State Street in Delphos. Ohio Route 697 enters town pointed toward the east, bending northeasterly and then northerly onto State Street. Then, it bends again by turning easterly onto 2nd Street. The guide marker shown in the photo faces south to advertise the upcoming right turn onto 2nd Street. This photo was taken on Leap Day 2016, as I was driving westerly and northwesterly away from Columbus toward home.
