^Looking north from the southern end at Iowa 9 in Cresco, May 2022.
Iowa Route 139 is a short north-south highway in northeastern Iowa, dangling from the border with Minnesota. The highway is a southern continuation of Minnesota Highway 139, which begins its southward journey at US Route 52 in Harmony, Minnesota. Only four miles south of Harmony, Minnesota Highway 139 crosses the state line to become Iowa Highway 139, bound for Cresco, Iowa. It is on the east side of Cresco that Iowa Route 139 ends at Iowa Route 9. Iowa Route 139 is about eleven miles long, spending some distance on either side of the county line dividing Howard and Winneshiek Counties.
My photo of Iowa Route 139 was taken at the state line between Iowa and Minnesota, looking south. The signage depicted is the first southbound trailblazer, visible to drivers departing the intersection with the state line road. This picture was my final and most recent addition to my collection of Iowa route markers, taken in May 2022 at the tail end of my trip across north-central Iowa. The signage also welcomes travelers crossing the state line into Winneshiek County. (Winneshiek County was also my last county clinched in Iowa.) Back to the Iowa main page. Back to the home page.
