Iowa Route 56 is a short east-west highway in northeastern Iowa, connecting West Union to Elkader. The roadway is only about 24 miles long, and it intersects no state highways between its two endpoints. The western end in West Union is at Iowa Route 150, just south of US Route 18. The eastern end in Elkader as along Iowa Route 13, on the south side of town.
My photo for Iowa Route 56 is the first eastbound reassurance marker. The signage confirms to drivers that they have made the turn off of Iowa Route 150 onto Iowa Route 56. This photo, taken in West Union, originated from my September 2019 trip across northern Iowa.
