^Looking west where Indiana 46 starts at US Route 52, near where Interstate 74 meets the Ohio border, August 2024.
Indiana State Route 46 links Terre Haute, Bloomington, Columbus, Greensburg, and the Cincinnati area, making it an important east-west route across Indiana. It lies toward the southern extent of what I'd consider "central Indiana". The western end in Terre Haute is at US Route 40 and Interstate 70, where those two highways split up. The eastern end is at US Route 52, just north of Interstate 74 and only a few miles short of the Ohio state line.
A previous photo served as the focal point for this page, and as the source for the shield image that appears on the Indiana menu page. A new photo, shown next, replaces that previous photo, but the older photo is still visible at the bottom of this page.
My photo for Indiana Route 46 shows a junction marker facing south, for those on US Route 52 who just deviated northward from Interstate 74. This is in the southeastern corner of Indiana. The trailblazer for US Route 52 is the first trailblazer seen by those poking north from the interchange with Interstate 74. That interchange is where US Route 52 splits from its concurrency with Interstate 74 that lasts for all of Interstate 74's mileage in Ohio. This photo was taken as I was using US Route 52 to get home from Cincinnati, in August 2024.
The older photo for Indiana Route 46 appears below.
This older photo for Indiana State Route 46 is an eastbound trailblazer coming off the junction with Interstate 69 in Bloomington. This is probably the most prominent interchange in Bloomington. Note that this section of Indiana Route 46 through Bloomington also carries Indiana Route 45, on a concurrency. Back to the Indiana main page. Back to the home page.
