US Route 171 runs north-south along the western edge of Louisiana, from Shreveport south to Lake Charles. The northern endpoint in Shreveport sits at the concurrency of US Routes 79 and 80, just barely north of Interstate 20. The southern endpoint in Lake Charles sits at US Route 90, just barely south of Interstate 10. The southernmost road traversed by US Route 171 continues south beyond US Route 90 as Louisiana Route 14.
My photo of US Route 171 was taken at the southern end of the route in Lake Charles. This southern endpoint is an intersection with US Route 90 running from east to west, and with US Route 171 ending and becoming Louisiana Route 14 as it passes from north to south. The junction markers depicted are on the south leg of the intersection facing south down Louisiana Route 14. The photo was snapped in October 2014, as part of the second leg on my first trip to the Gulf Coast; I was detouring west from the Mobile area to the San Antonio area along Interstate 10.
