^Looking east beyond Ohio 590 in Bettsville, October 2016.
Ohio State Route 12 runs southwestward from the Fremont area in northern Ohio, and it serves Fostoria and Findlay. The northeastern end is actually several miles south of Fremont along Ohio Route 53, a route that descends southerly from the west side of town. Much of the traffic departing Fremont toward the south will use Ohio Route 53 to access the first part of Ohio Route 12. Ohio Route 12, having decided that it likes Ohio towns starting with the letter "F", continues southwesterly to Fostoria, and then to Findlay. It becomes one of the main highways serving downtown Findlay, and then it passes through an interchange with Interstate 75. While Interstate 75 leaves Findlay toward the southwest, Ohio Route 12 opts for a more west-southwesterly course. It passes through a few more smalle towns, like Benton Ridge, Pandora, and Columbus Grove (no relation to Columbus proper). Ohio Route 12 then ends rather unceremoniously, at Ohio Route 115 in the tiny town of Vaughnsville. This is in southern Putnam County, and the roadway continues west as Ohio Route 189 (I couldn't explain to you why they didn't just extend Ohio Route 12 west over Ohio Route 189).
My photo of Ohio State Route 12 signage comes from the western end in Vaughnsville. The trailblazer depicted is the very first eastbound trailblazer. It is seen by those turning off of Ohio Route 115, or by those continuing straight from Ohio Route 189. This photo was taken on the way to Columbus using the back roads in October 2022.
